Search engines and links
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008Though links were initially used to provide useful information to the visitors to a website, over a period of time, they have been used by search engines to determine the importance of a particular website. The greater the number of websites linking to a website, the higher its ranking in the search engines as they often equate links to the importance of a website.
Not all websites have the same amount of weight age in linking. Links from older and more established websites , educational institutions and government websites are considered more important.
